The reporters behind this project are master’s degree candidates in the International Reporting Program at the City University of New York (CUNY) Graduate School of Journalism. In June 2017, we had the opportunity to embark on a 10-day reporting trip throughout Israel and the West Bank with the support of the Jerusalem Press Club. Keeping in mind the historical complexities and dominant narratives of the Israeli-Palestinian conflict, we brought our own diverse perspectives to the Holy Land. We hail from Cuba, Jamaica, Nepal and the United States, while others have roots in Bangladesh, Tibet, Mexico, Nigeria and Palestine.
Our experience in Israel and the West Bank was neither easy nor comfortable. But we left with greater empathy and a better understanding of a divided peoples often obscured by headlines, as well as a renewed respect for the rigors and importance of thorough international reporting.
We hope you enjoy our work.
